Canva’s new services are a direct challenge to The Google the documents , Microsoft office and Adobewhose digital tools are a mainstay of the modern workplace.

With the launch, Canva hopes to transform itself from a primarily consumer-focused brand that individual teams often use to design social media graphics and presentations into an important business tool — and in the process, unlock the productivity management software market. valued at $47.3 billion And it’s growing at a rate of 13% annually, according to Grand View Research.

Perkins, chief operating officer Cliff Obrecht, and chief product officer Cameron Adams all founded Canva a decade ago. The Sydney-based startup was valued at $40 billion in 2021 before investors pared its value to $26 billion earlier this year, citing a desire to better keep pace with public markets. However, the company is the most valuable startup in the world.

The 3000-person company has built this assessment over the past decade with the design products users rely on to create them Instagram Graphics, slides, and more. Canva’s basic features are free, but the company charges customers to reach higher levels. Likewise, its new, web-based products will be free with additional purchase options available. The new product working group is integrated, allowing users to work across formats. A document created with Canva’s Google Docs competitor can be converted into a slide in the presentation tool, for example.

Handling all of modern publishing—including workplace tools—has been part of Perkins and Obrecht’s vision for Canva all along, but they started small. Canva originated today from Fusion Books, the yearbook publisher the couple founded a decade ago. “We had this on a presentation all the way back in 2011,” Perkins told reporters in Sydney on Tuesday. “That was the last column.”

Canva says it has 85 million users and 4 million paying customers. In addition to Documents, the company offers a website builder, a new category that allows Canva to engage with Squarespace and other website design leaders. (Canva’s toolkit does not include email, and it is often included in digital workplace product packages.)

The startup will also launch a Creators Network that will allow photographers and other artists to receive payments for drawings they upload to the Canva ecosystem and an App Marketplace that will allow developers to create new features that can be made available for paid download. Both features open up new revenue streams for Canva.
