Edmonton Oilers hired new amateur explorers, Kraken promoted Alexandra Mandrake to AGM and more

The Edmonton Oilers have appointed Milan Ticchi as Chief Amateur Scout, Athletic Aaron Burtzlin reported Wednesday.

Tichy joined the Oilers after spending the past two decades working in the European Scouts for Columbus Blue Jackets. He played professional hockey in the Czechoslovakia league in the late 1980s and early 1990s before coming to North America to play in the 1990s.

His first season of pro hockey in 1991-1992 with the Indianapolis Ice of the IHL and later played some AHL and NHL games.

Tichy moved to global spending on exploration 1998-1999 with the Nashville Predators as a scout before moving to the Blue Jackets Organization in 1999-00 where he remained until last year.

The Seattle Kraken promoted Alexandra Mandriki to assistant general manager on Wednesday, becoming the sixth woman to fill that role in the NHL.

The transition toward hiring women in prominent front-office positions was rapid. Just last year, there were no women around the league holding Assistant General Manager positions, but now, Mandrake is sixth in the league.

Former NHL striker Nathan Gerby has retired from professional hockey and is joining the front office of the Nashville Predators as a development coach.

Gerby had a massive 11-year career in the NHL which became even more due to the fact that he played at 5’4″ and only 176 lbs.

Drafted by the Buffalo Sabers in the fifth round of the 2005 draft, he went to Boston College where he was a dynamic offensive threat playing 123 games over three years, scoring 71 goals and 133 points. His Eagles won the 2007-08 NCAA National Championship and was named MVP of the tournament.

Gerbe played 435 NHL games over 11 years, scoring 63 goals and 151 points in deep innings with the Sabers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
