Clicking on the Material Extensions section indicates that it will display all material attachments that have been added to a connected service. The text reads “These can also be added to additional services using an application that supports Matter.” It will allow interoperability between smart devices from different companies, so HomeKitAlexa and Google Assistant devices, for example, can work together.

In the release notes for the update, Apple says that pairing Matter accessories first requires a profile installed on your device. There are also several other known issues with the Matter standard at the moment, with workarounds available on the Apple website.

  • Removing Apple Home from the Matter accessory Connected Services list on the Home page does not remove the accessory panel.
  • You may receive an alert to turn on Wi-Fi when an item accessory is paired.
  • The attachment details may not open if the material attachment cannot be accessed.
  • You may not be able to associate with Matter ECM token via Matter Support Framework API.
  • Unapproved extensions notifications may appear when Matter accessories are paired.
  • You may not be able to associate a Matter extension if the extension is already associated with a third-party ecosystem.
  • The device that initiates pairing needs to use the same iCloud Calculate as the hub of the house. Only the home owner, not the invited user, can associate Matter accessories.
